The pet creator seems to provide almost as many options as the sim creator. There are tabs for gender, species, colour, markings and features. It is not just a case of picking cat or dog either as several breeds are available to chose from. The colourings can also be as wacky as you want them to be, ranging from black and white, to multi-layered markings, each with their own individual colour schemes that are completely customisable.
However, while the Sims 3 website promises “dogs, cats, … horses … lizards, turtles, snakes, and birds”, it appears that you will only be able to create and customise dogs, cats and horses. We know this because only dogs and cats were being demoed at the Gamefest creator demo and the Sims 3 website promises that you will be able to “create a wide variety of unique … horses”, but promises nothing in relation to the other animals.
Still, with the extension pack still a month away there is some chance that there will be some degree of customisability for animals other than dogs, cats and horses.
The expansion is for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of The Sims 3. The release date for the Sims 3: Pets expansion pack is October 18th in North America and October 20th-21st in Europe.
