Well isn’t this a nice surprise? According to PlayStation’s blog, Journey has become the fastest-selling game in the history of the SCEA region on PSN. This means it has outsold every other first and third party release in a shorter amount of time than any game previously. thatgamecompany also reports that they’ve recieved an insurmountable mass of fanmail, thanks, and praise from people who played the game, more so than their previous games.
How do you explain this? A niche, minimalist art game is a hit? Well, it probably helps that it averages a score of 92 on Metacritic, which ties it for first place in the current PlayStation 3 rankings along with triple-A big budget games like Skyrim and Uncharted 3. I guess that’s the beauty of Journey: it has reached across the gaming and non-gaming masses by creating an experience like no other.
In other news, my faith in humanity has been restored and I find myself staring at glasses of water as half full.

This game is brilliant. I’m so glad to hear it’s doing well. I’ve been running around like a chicken with its head cut off yelling to my friends about how awesome Journey is and how I’m going to make them play it because they just need to experience it.
