The expansion to the ever-popular Starcraft II seems to be coming close to a release. A lot of speculation has been thrown around about the release date of the expansion, especially when the supposed Blizzard release date schedule was leaked a few years ago, which showed that we would have expected to see the first Starcraft II expansion near the end of 2011 or the beginning of 2012.
Well, we all know that didn’t happen, but Blizzard officially said a few months before the leaked release schedule that they speculated a Spring 2012 release for Heart of the Swarm, specifically March or April 2012. Again, we know that didn’t happen. Recently, in an interview at Kotaku, the lead developer, Dustin Bowder, said that Heart of the Swarm was nearly finished:
“We are 99% done, but that last 1% is a bitch.”
While that is very vague and not concrete whatsoever, that 1% could take months for all we know, but we can probably guess a release before or around the end of this year. Especially when you look at something like the World of Warcraft expansions. The recent track record of Blizzard expansions would indicate a release date around the 2 year mark. Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty was released in July of 2010, and we are just getting around the 2 year mark now in June of 2012.
I would suspect that a release will be fairly soon, definitely before the end of the year. Blizzard may push it back for the holiday season, so my guess is that we would either see it at the end of Summer or in November during the holiday season.
