If you’ve been wondering what’s been going on with Castle Story, you’ll be pleased to hear that Sauropod Studio set up a Kickstarter that has already exceeded its goal. In fact, the Castle Story Kickstarter reached its goal of $80,000 in under five hours.
Why Kickstarter? Well, the developers were so overwhelmed and touched by the flood of positive responses to the demo they posted on YouTube in January that they decided to quit their jobs in order to devote themselves full time to their game. Of course, as developers there are a slew of expenses to pay (like licenses) and it’s a lot to cover when you don’t have a job. Hence, the Kickstarter.
The response to the Kickstarter so far has been immense. As of the time of writing, the Kickstarter has raised over $200,000, backed by over 7,500 people. Notch (Markus Persson) might be one of the main reasons behind this wild success. Yesterday afternoon, he tweeted a link to the Castle Story Kickstarter, saying “This right here.” Soon after he tweeted, the amount of money pledged shot up several tens of thousands of dollars. Nothing like a little nod from the creator of Minecraft to get your project going. Especially when your project has that blocky look made so popular by Minecraft.
