Gears of War: Judgment has been under development for some time. Release dates prior to today have been vague, the most specific being March 2013. At long last, players are being given a concrete release date of March 19, 2013.
The latest installment takes the series back to its roots, exploring events before the Gears of War trilogy. There will be new characters, enemies, and weapons as well as a new multiplayer mode called OverRun. OverRun is a class-based combination of the Horde and Beast multiplayer modes.
The trailer released today is a tutorial of OverRun and can be viewed below. E3 showed off OverRun on the “Rooftops” map, but the tutorial introduces a new map called “Island.” Civilian-free, Island would perhaps be better off titled “Islands,” as it’s a series of islands connected by bridges.
If you don’t feel like watching the video, here’s a basic break-down of the mode:
- 2 teams of 5 fight for control of a generator
- COGs will be focused on defending, while Locusts are on the attack
- Players will get to be both roles every game
- 4 COG classes with unique weapons and abilities: Engineer, Soldier, Scout, Medic
- Locust classes include: Ticker, Wretch, Bloodmount, Grenadier, Kantus, Mauler, Giant Serapede, Corpser
- Locusts gain points during matches, which can then be used to get better classes
LONDON — July 16, 2012 — Before the rise of the Lambent, the sinking of Jacinto or the detonation of the Lightmass bomb, there was Emergence Day – when the Locust horde burst from the ground and set Sera on a path toward near annihilation. Launching 19 March, 2013 for £49.99 (ERP), “Gears of War: Judgment” brings players back to the terrifying aftermath of E-Day, before the events of the “Gears” trilogy, for the most intense and challenging “Gears” game yet.
Developed exclusively for Xbox 360 by Epic Games and People Can Fly, “Gears of War: Judgment” delivers a riveting campaign featuring new characters, weapons and enemies, and new multiplayer experiences like OverRun, an all-new class-based mode that combines elements of the acclaimed Horde and Beast modes pioneered in previous “Gears” games.
Master the Basics of OverRun and Charge into Action on “Island”
Fans can get ahead of the game and learn the essentials of OverRun’s thrilling new class-based competitive gameplay through the OverRun tutorial video released today. Narrated by Damon Baird, players will see the required skills they need to defend as a COG or attack as a Locust and engage in adrenaline-pumping skirmishes unlike anything “Gears” fans have experienced before.Following the debut of OverRun at E3 2012 on the “Rooftops” map, today the all-new “Island” map was revealed. Island takes place on an archipelago of islands off the coast of Halvo Bay, which serves as a supply and re-fuelling depot that feeds the larger military machine along the coast. The individual islands are connected by a series of bridges and tunnels, forming a network of unknown size and security. This is restricted territory, and civilians are not permitted on, or even near, any of the islands.
