Metal Gear Solid 4 Getting Trophies and Re-Release

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the PatriotsIf you’re like me and have been staving off a replay of Metal Gear Solid 4, now might be the time to end your celibacy.

Hideo Kojima himself has announced that the game featuring Snake in his twilight years will be getting a trophy patch along with a “PlayStation 3 The Best” budget release priced at about $50 (3990 yen).

Current owners of the game will be able to download the trophy patch, while the re-release will be arriving in August 2012. There is no official release date for the trophy patch yet though it will probably arrive with the new release.

Konami will be holding a Metal Gear Solid 25th Anniversary Event on August 30, 2012 where another announcement is planned. It’s seemingly related to the “transfarring” feature that’s been available in a few recent Metal Gear Solid titles.

It’s been a long time coming with many promises like this said before. I hope we don’t get burned again. Back to the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, which I still have to write my review for. Expect that soon.

Update: “The Best” release will come with a full installation option for the game. It is not yet clear whether this will be available in the upcoming trophy patch for current owners of the game. We’ll have updates as they come in.
