WoW: Mists of Pandaria Release Date, Special Editions Announced

Blizzard has been talking about the latest World of Warcraft expansion, Mists of Pandaria, for some time. At long last, a release date has been announced: September 25, 2012. Additionally, a Digital Deluxe version and a Collector’s Edition were revealed.

Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment, had this to say about the expansion:

Mists of Pandaria contains the biggest variety of new content we’ve ever created for a World of Warcraft expansion, with features that will appeal to new players, veterans, and everyone in between. We’ve received a lot of great feedback from players during our most extensive beta test yet, and we hope they enjoy exploring everything Pandaria has to offer when the expansion comes out in September.”

The standard edition of the game will cost $39.99. But for players who want more, the Digital Deluxe version will cost $59.99. Players who bought any standard edition of the game may upgrade to the Digital Deluxe version at any time (as long as it remains available) for $20. The Digital Deluxe version contains a digital copy of the game as well as:

  • An In-Game Mount: ”the mystical Imperial Quilen flying mount”
  • An In-Game Pet: the Lucky Quilen Cub
  • StarCraft II Portraits: “exclusive Infested Orc and Night Elf Templar portraits”
  • Diablo III Banner Sigil and Accent: “Display your status as a hero of Pandaria with the iconic markings of World of Warcraft’s newest playable race, the pandaren.”

The Collector’s Edition will cost $79.99 and will be available in retail stores. In addition to a physical DVD-ROM copy of the game, players will get:

  • All bonuses from the Digital Deluxe version
  • Behind-the-Scenes DVD and Blu-Ray: “two-disc set featuring over an hour of commentary, insider interviews, and developer roundtables”
  • Collector’s Edition Soundtrack CD
  • The Art of Mists of Pandaria Book: hardcover, 208 pages; from concept art to finished product
  • Chen Stormstout Mouse Pad

Pre-sales are available now. Mists of Pandaria contains a wealth of new content, including:

  • New playable race: the pandaren
  • New character class: the monk
  • New continent: massive new area to explore, rich with its own history
  • New level cap of 90
  • New pet battle system
  • Scenarios: “a flexible new kind of cooperative PvE trial”
  • Challenge modes: gain rewards for mastering Mists of Pandaria’s 5-player dungeons

Seems like a pretty substantial update to me.
