Modding seems to be the way of the PC gaming future and CD Projekt RED wants to get in on it. The Witcher 2 is arguably one of the best looking games on the market today graphically, and also arguably, one of the best RPGs in a long time.
Now, or soon anyway, it seems that there will be a modding community surrounding the game. CD Projekt RED has said that modders will be able to create, with what they call REDkit, “new, non-linear adventures, great looking locations and much more.”
Since you can create new locations, there will be some kind of terrain and object placement function. And, you will be able to create your own stories and quests it seems, so you can probably create/name units etc. This all probably comes at the price of no voice acting though, unless they have just a bank of phrases for you to choose from, which would be very limiting.
This year’s Gamescom takes place on August 15-19. Expect a lot more information about REDkit as well as other games soon.

What do you mean by this, Andrew? The modding community has been around for a pretty long time, and has allowed some older games as well as recent ones to achieve a cult following.
Oh I am very aware of this and I will be discussing it in length in my column this week on Saturday so look out.
Modding has been big and spawned massive games and genres (counter-strike, dota). However, I am now seeing a lot more games coming with some kind of mod support, and those games do well.
I just think it is a new trend that is happening just now. I think the smart developers will try and make a modding community with their game, assuming of course the type of game they are making will benefit or make sense to have the ability to have mods.
