Valve has just announced a Steam Community update that they will be working on for their Steam client. There will be 4 days of updates to the Steam Community, in various forms I would say. So, let’s jump into Day 1. Valve’s Emily Kent said this about the new Steam Community in their press release:
“The New Steam Community is all about showing off the best content that gamers have created. With over 89 million screenshots, videos, Steam Workshop maps, levels, mods, and items, plus news articles and product updates, the community has created an unbelievable wealth of content around their favorite games.”
Valve has dubbed Day 1 as Game Hubs as that is what the update entails. Every game on Steam, like Skyrim, will have various tabs at the top that have to do with different aspects of the game. There is the main page, which is just all of the tabs together. Then a discussion tab that seems to be separate from the Steam forums, so you don’t have to go to the Steam forums to discuss the game. Also, there is a Workshop page for games that are compatible with Steam Workshop.
Next we have a videos tab and a screenshot tab. Both of these are user-submitted content that we, as a community, can vote on to put things at the top of the hub. The final tab is about the news, which should just include links to various news posts about the game.
That is quite an impressive update to Steam already; a part of Steam has got a whole new makeover. If this is only Day 1 of this update, I wonder what more there is to follow.
Come back to check out the updates for the next three days.
