Yesterday brought us the news that Sony are releasing an even slimmer, lighter model of their PlayStation 3. The price of the console is said to remain the same as the current PS3s on the market, but it boasts a much larger hard drive. There are two versions of the console available: a 250GB HDD model and a 500GB HDD model. The new model is said to be approximately 20% smaller and 25% lighter than the current PS3.
There will also be a bundle available in which buyers will get the new model PlayStation along with a copy of Uncharted 3 Game of the Year Edition and a coupon for the upcoming Dust 514; all for the price of $269.99. This seems like a pretty smart move on Sony’s part as they know they’ll be competing with the Wii U this holiday season. Releasing a pretty new model into the world might just tempt consumers away from Nintendo’s latest offerings, and maybe even guarantee them some customer loyalty for when they eventually release their PlayStation 4 sometime in the near future.
Update: The 250gb bundle will release on September 25, 2012 with Uncharted 3 GOTY for $269.99.

I think this is brilliant on Sony’s part. Uncharted 3 is also a strong pick in comparison to a Wii U with Nintendoland (which also pricier might I add).
yay! just bought a ps3 today for $249.99
ive got a slim line ps3.320 gig are the slimmer ones better or shud i just keep the 1 ive got?
Well, I’d say if there’s nothing wrong with your PS3 and you aren’t running out of space, then just keep what you’ve got. It doesn’t seem like there’s anything different in terms of hardware on these new PS3 models. I could be wrong; I haven’t researched it or anything.
But, ultimately, it’s up to you.
