With Rockstar teasing us lately with promises of information regarding the newest instalment in the Grand Theft Auto series, they have still yet to confirm the release date.
This image (at left) appeared on the GTA-Five forum recently, depicting a rather authentic-looking poster with the words “Spring 2013“ emblazoned upon it. While this could be a fake, considering it originated on a fan forum, early next year seems like a feasible release date.
Another point of interest in this leaked pre-order store ad image is the lack of the Wii U’s logo as one of the platforms under the GTA V logo. This is perhaps not too surprising given Nintendo’s general family-friendly lean and GTA’s mature themes. However, Nintendo has been heavily playing up the Wii U’s third party game capacity, with many games (such as Assassin’s Creed III) that haven’t been on a Nintendo console coming to the Wii U.
Meanwhile, a NeoGAF thread with the same image also has the following quote from Take-Two (which owns Rockstar) CEO Strauss Zelnick on the possibility of publishing its more mature titles on the Wii U (dated around this year’s E3):
“We haven’t announced anything. I’m skeptical.”
As Rockstar have promised more information in November, hopefully we’ll get a confirmation one way or the other. In the meantime, we can all hope for a surprise Christmas release! (Doubt it somehow, but a girl can dream…)
