Pikmin 3 Due to be Released in Spring 2013

Pikmin 3, the long-awaited sequel to the exclusive Nintendo franchise has been given a release window of Spring 2013.

The news comes from a footnote in the latest entry into Satoru Iwata’s ‘Iwata Asks’ column. Whilst the release window is not a solid date, it should offer a sense of relief to lovers of the Pikmin series, who have been waiting for any indication of the release of Pikmin 3 since development on the title was announced back in E3 2008.

Pikmin 3 was revealed to fans earlier this year at E3 2012, and will be a Wii U exclusive title. The game will introduce a variety of new Pikmin, and of course players will now be able to enjoy the franchise in glorious HD thanks to the Wii U hardware.

Are you excited for the next entry into the series? Could it be a title that has a significant impact on sales of the Wii U? Let us know what you think below!

Update: Nintendo have updated the footnote stating the following:

“Pikmin: The first game in the Pikmin series, released for the Nintendo GameCube system in October 2001. Pikmin 3 is scheduled for release for the Wii U console in the spring of 2013 in Japan, and during the Wii U launch window, from system release thru 3/31/2013 in the US. (Editor’s note 10/19/2012: We originally published the article citing only the expected release timing in Japan. We apologize for any confusion this may have caused.)”
