Riot Confirms That LAN Will Not be for Private Use

Just last week, Riot announced that it was developing a LAN system for use in League of Legends tournaments. This was eagerly welcomed news given the amount of issues that tournaments have faced regarding internet connection issues over the past few years. Of course, when the announcement was made it fueled speculation: Will the general public get to use this new LAN system?

Well, Riot has answered that speculation today. Specifically, Dustin Beck took to twitter to say:

“We built an offline solution for the Finals for the pros to be protected from internet connectivity issues, more info in 2nd tweet”

“There are no plans to develop a LAN mode for offline play at home / LAN centers. Just wanted to clarify for everyone. Thanks!”

So… sorry to anyone who was hoping to actually use LAN at his or her next LoL LAN party, but that doesn’t look like it will be an option. And given all of the issues surrounding the use of LAN in games such as League of Legends and Starcraft, it’s not that surprising to hear. What do you think?
