PS2 to Stop Shipping in Japan, No Word on Other Regions Yet

PlayStation 2It’s the end of an era for Sony’s second generation consoles. The PlayStation 2 will cease new shipments to Japan, meaning that those new PS2 consoles on the shelves will be the last of the line.

The PlayStation 2 originally released on March 4, 2000 as the next-generation successor to the 32 bit PlayStation console.  The console has been long supported by developers during its lifespan with new games coming out as recently as this year (Pro Evolution Soccer 2013 released this past October/November).

For many people, the PS2 served as trojan horse with people buying the console for its DVD playback when instead relishing in its vast gaming library. Ah, the memories.
