Recent Square Enix Layoffs Said Not to Impact MMOs and Development

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn

The game industry, like any other industry, does have layoffs from time to time. Sadly, rumors of Square Enix layoffs have been confirmed to be true by the publisher.

Square Enix’s LA office, responsible for titles like Wakfu and Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, has been hit by the bug. Riley Brennan from the company’s PR department told Massively that the decision for staff reductions was a difficult one but won’t impact the operation of current MMO titles and won’t disrupt the upcoming launch of the renewed Final Fantasy.

Here are his words exactly:

“In order to ensure it is operating effectively, the Square Enix Los Angeles office has reduced its workforce. This was a difficult decision and we wish the best for those affected by these changes. The decision will not have any impact on the operations of MMO titles. Customers can expect those services to continue, including the upcoming launch of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn.”

Hopefully those affected will be able to continue their passions elsewhere.
