Steam for Linux is Now Available

Steam for LinuxSteam is now available for those of you who rock the penguin mascot. At least, if you rock the Ubuntu-branded penguin.

The best part?

Steam is having a discount event for the occasion.

David Pitkin, Director of Consumer Applications at Canonical says:

“We expect a growing number of game developers to include Ubuntu among their target platforms. We’re looking forward to seeing AAA games developed with Ubuntu in mind as part of a multi-platform day and date release on Steam.”

This platform integration softens up the barrier to entry for companies looking to develop for Ubuntu but time will tell if this opportunity will be squandered or seized

Steam also comes to Linux with Big Picture, meaning any able-willed person out there can now run a Linux-based gaming device for their TV.

We’ve talked about Steam’s tryst with Linux in the past. I can already imagine how many Linux computers out there have just installed Team Fortress 2.

Have you tried Steam yet on your Linux box? Comment with your thoughts and agitations.
